Mental Health is a level of psychological well-being, or an absence of mental illness. It includes our emotional, psychological and social well-being; affecting how we think, feel and act. It helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others and make choices. Mental disorders are a wide range of conditions that affect thinking, mood and behaviour; for example anxiety, depression and substance use disorder(SUD/Addiction).

Mental Health is the psychological state of someone who is functioning at a satisfactory level or emotional and behavioural adjustment. Mentally healthy people are resilient which means they are able to deal with
stress/adversity effectively.
Components of mental health
Mentally healthy people have Purpose in life and Personal Growth on a continuous basis.
National Mental Health Association cites 10 characteristics of people who are mentally healthy;
- They have Life Skills; they can meet life’s demands and handle their problems when they arise.
- They feel good about themselves (self-acceptance)
- They do not become overwhelmed by emotions such as fear, anger, love, jealousy, guilt or anxiety.
They have long lasting and satisfying personal relationships. - They feel comfortable with other people.
- They can laugh at themselves and with others.
- They have respect for themselves and others, even if there are differences.
- They are able to accept life’s disappointments.
- They make their own decisions (autonomy).
- They shape their environment whenever possible and adjust to it when necessary.
